DC Reentry Housing Project

A Civic Tech DC project building a citywide reentry housing data platform with the DC Reentry Housing Alliance: mapping available units, eligibility, and shared outcomes across the coalition.

Civic Tech DC is partnering with the DC Reentry Housing Alliance to build a citywide reentry housing data platform, giving the coalition a shared, real-time picture of housing across the District.

Why This Matters

In Washington, DC, 57% of people experiencing homelessness have been formerly incarcerated. The DC Reentry Housing Alliance is fighting to end reentry homelessness by uniting housing providers, policymakers, and returning citizens to expand permanent supportive housing and fix the broken systems that keep people locked out. But the data needed to coordinate that work across the city is scattered and hard to act on.

The Solution

We're building a citywide reentry housing data platform for the Alliance:

  • Real-time mapping of available units and eligibility
  • Shared measurement infrastructure across the coalition
  • A common source of truth that connects providers, policymakers, and returning citizens

Our Partner

The DC Reentry Housing Alliance is a coalition led by returning citizens, working alongside housing providers and policymakers across the District. David Schultz is the Alliance's point person for the data platform.

Get Involved

We're looking for volunteers to help design and build the housing data platform. We especially need help with:

  • Data modeling and shared measurement infrastructure
  • Real-time mapping and geospatial visualization
  • Integrating data across housing providers
  • Front-end and product design
